Land Acknowledgment

In the spirit of fostering reconciliation, respect, and truth, I offer my heartfelt gratitude and respect for the fact that my home and workplace are situated on the ancestral lands of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta. This place was originally known as "Moh'kinstsis" in the Blackfoot language, and it is now known as the City of Calgary. These lands encompass the traditional territories of several Indigenous communities, including the Blackfoot Confederacy, which includes the Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, and Amskapi Piikani First Nations; as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda: which includes the Goodstoney, Chiniki, and Bearspaw First Nations; and the  Tsuut’ina First Nation. I acknowledge that these lands also serve as the home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, within the historical Northwest Métis homeland. I acknowledge all Nations - Indigenous and non-Indigenous - who live, work, and play on this land, and who honor and celebrate this territory.
